Ahead of his upcoming new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, Kendrick Lamar made his presence felt with the unveiling of The Heart Part 5. Unlike The Heart Part 4, Part 5 makes use of livelier background music and a unique music video where we get to see Kendrick Lamar transform into various black personalities.

Throughout the video, Kendrick performs in a maroon backdrop, with his face transforming into the following personalities: OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Will Smith–all of them who share a common theme of having problematic behaviors.

With a big part of the rap track tackling the problems of “the culture”, Kendrick transforms into Kobe Bryant and Nipsey Hussle–two prominent personalities who died tragically at their peak.

In line with his previous works, The Heart Part 5 is a packed social commentary where Kendrick Lamar would spit verses regarding society’s current situation. Kendrick’s albums Good Kid, MAAD City and To Pimp a Butterfly have been recognized as one of the most iconic hip-hop albums in the 2010s, while DAMN. has won multiple awards including Best Rap Album at the 2018 Grammys.
